The problem
Why dark spots fade and then come straight back
Three different serums, and each one worked for about a fortnight.
Foundation doesn't really cover the patches on my cheeks.
I've been burned by a cream that turned out to have steroids in it.
Everything promises results in seven days and nothing delivers.
Most products only work on the surface layer
Brightening the epidermis alone leaves the melanocytes underneath doing exactly what they were doing before. Stop using the product and the pigment returns, sometimes darker than it started.
This routine takes a different route: it limits the signal that triggers pigment production, supports the turnover of discoloured cells, and rebuilds the skin barrier so the improvement holds.
Which also means progress is measured in weeks, not days. The realistic timelines for each type of discolouration are further down this page, because setting the wrong expectation is how people end up disappointed.
Melasma is not one condition. Before the formula matters, you need to know which kind you are looking at.
Know what you have
Three patterns of hyperpigmentation, and honest timelines
Knowing which one you have tells you what to expect. This is why we do not quote a single number for everybody.

Epidermal patches
Light to dark brown patches with defined edges, sitting in the upper layer. Usually linked to UV exposure, hormonal change, or a previous steroid cream.

Dermal pigmentation
Grey-brown spots or patches with soft edges, where pigment sits deeper in the skin. Linked to genetics, hormones, sun exposure and prolonged stress.

Mixed pigmentation
Both at once: clearly defined dark areas alongside diffuse, patchy ones. It takes longer and demands stricter sun protection.
Setting expectations
Three groups, three very different timescales
This is why we do not quote one number. Applying the first group's expectations to the last is the quickest way to stop halfway and conclude that nothing works.
- Surface patches (epidermal)
- 4–8 weeksPigment sits in the outer layer, so it responds earliest.
- Deeper pigment (dermal)
- 8–12 weeksPigment sits deeper and needs more cell-turnover time.
- Mixed
- 8–16 weeksBoth forms on the same area, so the widest range.
Reference ranges, not a promise. Results vary by individual and by daily sun protection — skip the sunscreen step and none of the figures above hold.

How to use it
Four steps, about five minutes
Once or twice daily. The morning sunscreen is not optional — skip it and the other two steps are largely wasted.
Step 1
Cleanse
Wash with the Bio-Active Cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.
Step 2
Serum
Three to four drops over the affected areas and the whole face. Press in, don't rub.
Step 3
Cream
About a fingertip's worth across face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
Step 4
Sunscreen
Every morning, without exception, using the SPF50 included in the duo.
Recommended run: 8–12 weeks without gaps. Unprotected sun exposure brings pigment back regardless of which product you use.
What goes when
The morning routine and the evening routine are not the same
The order below is taken from Mocha's own published routine, trimmed to the products in this combo.
Morning
- Bio-Active CleanserWash and dry before applying anything.
- Smart First Care SerumOne or two presses for the whole face, patted in.
- Smart Brightening Cream X3About a fingertip's worth, avoiding the eye area.
- UV-Block SPF50 sunscreenNever skipNot optional. Skip it and the three steps above lose most of their point.
Evening
- Make-up removerOnly if you wore make-up or sunscreen that day.
- Bio-Active CleanserDamp skin or leftover residue both reduce absorption.
- Smart First Care SerumThe step that opens the way, before the cream.
- Smart Brightening Cream X3The step that seals it in overnight.
There is no sunscreen step at night, so the evening column is one step shorter — that is the only difference between the two routines, and it is also the step most often skipped.
Said plainly
Four cases where you should think again, or ask a doctor first
This sits immediately before the form on purpose. Knowing a product is not for you is far better before it arrives than after.
Ask a doctor first
Pregnant or breastfeeding
The formulas contain no retinoids, but that is not a reason to decide alone. Ask a doctor before starting any skincare product during this period.
Ask a doctor first
Skin recovering from a procedure, or currently damaged
Skin after laser, microneedling or peeling, or skin that is badly irritated, is a medical situation. The right person to answer is the doctor who treated you, not a website.
Think again
Unable to use sunscreen every morning
Plainly: if your work or habits make daily sun protection unrealistic, results will be noticeably worse than anything described on this page. That step is not optional.
Think again
Needing a visible change within a week or two
Even the fastest-responding group takes around four weeks. If you need results for a deadline sooner than that, this is not the right thing and we would rather you knew now.

Questions
What people ask before ordering
What does the duo cost?
The Smart Brightening Cream X3 and Smart First Care Serum together are 1,050,000₫, including the SPF50 sunscreen and cleanser. The list price is 1,800,000₫, so you save 750,000₫. We quote shipping to your country before you pay.
How long before I see a difference?
How long it takes depends on which pattern of pigmentation you have. Surface patches tend to shift in 4–8 weeks; deeper and mixed pigmentation takes 8–16 weeks. This varies between individuals and depends heavily on daily sun protection.
What if I use it for eight weeks and see no difference?
Outside the EU and UK we do not refund for change of mind or lack of results; the 7-day return covers faulty, incorrect or unopened items only, because opened cosmetics cannot be resold. EU and UK customers keep the statutory 14-day right to withdraw and receive a full refund, with return postage at your cost. Either way, if eight weeks pass with no change, contact us first: we will review how you are applying it and your daily sun protection, the two most common causes. If it still does not improve, your pigmentation may need medical treatment rather than a cosmetic product.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
The formula uses Bakuchiol rather than retinol and contains no corticosteroids, hydroquinone or drying alcohol. Patch test on the jawline for 24 hours before applying to the whole face.
Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The formula is retinoid-free. Even so, speak to your doctor before adding any new product to your routine during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Will the spots come back?
Pigmentation returns readily when skin is exposed to UV without protection. Completing the 8–12 week run and wearing sunscreen every morning is what makes the improvement hold.
Do you ship outside Vietnam?
Yes, from Ho Chi Minh City. Tell us your country in the order form and we will confirm shipping cost and delivery time before anything is charged.
